Pls let your raised eye-brows rest at their original places :D. Here I wanna say that am happy (Pls refer Oxford Dictionary to search Gay :D)....
But what's the fuss even if I were a Homosexual....The issue here is inherent one, imbibed in our cultures that discussing sexuality is a taboo, let alone the discussion on its orientation.
Post Delhi High Court judgment over amending Article 377 of India constitution, there have been endless controversies. All the religious groups have united against this law (First time ever have they come together over any issue :D). Even Baba Ramdev dint miss this opportunity to advertise his Yoga capabilities by labeling homosexuality (H.S.) as illness and claimed to cure it by his yogic excellence.
Hindus claim that allowing H.S. would be against nature and Manusmriti (the testament which guide Hinduism) is against it. However, Manusmriti dictates severe penalties on H.S., which indirectly meant that H.S. was prevalent among Hindus in those days. Further, this are the same scriptures that propagates differentiating Shudras from the main society, raising questions on their validity.
Talking about other religion....Darul Qaza, the Islamic court and Akal Takht, the supreme Sikh religious body, have condemned Gay marriages and have appealed religious leaders across the globe to oppose and stop the same. The Catholic church has also rebuked H.S., quoting Bible (Genesis 1,28) but its the same church who oppose use of Condoms as contraceptives.....
I believe that H.S. was very much prevalent in India from the early days as even Kamasutra, the Indian classic on sexuality, deals with H.S. One cannot close his eyes and say there is no "evil". It was just that it dint come out so openly. But with the liberalisation of the laws and more celebrities like Wendell Rodricks and Prince Manvendra of Rajkot come out and be candid over their sexual orientation in the media, we would see an increased acceptance of Homosexuality. The glimse of the same is very much visible in Bollywood movies like Dostana, Fashion & Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd.
I, personally, believe sexual orientation is an individual prerogative. It is like, you cannot force a person to be a vegetarian by making Non-veg consumption illegal. India is a democratic country and our Constitution guarantees liberal Rights for every Indian. This include Rights to Equality, Right to freedom and Right to follow religion of own choice, then why not freedom to have sexual orientation of own choice.
However, playing a Devil's Advocate, I want you guys to ponder over a thought -
If H.S. was meant to be reasonable, why did God send "Adam & Eve" & not "Adam & Steve" or for that matter "Madam & Eve" ??? :D
Think about it....
